Rands and Cents

About Rand and Sense

Hi, I'm Liam. I started Rand and Sense because I was tired of budgeting tools that didn't work for South Africans.

Every app I tried was in dollars. Every template assumed American tax brackets and tipping culture. None of them understood load-shedding anxiety, petrol price hikes, or the reality of making your salary stretch to the end of the month in Rands.

So I built my own planner. A simple, printable PDF that worked on my iPad. I used it for a month and something clicked — I could actually see where my money was going. No fancy app, no subscription, just a daily habit of writing things down.

I shared it with a few friends. Then a few more. They all said the same thing: "Why doesn't something like this exist already?"

That's how Rand and Sense was born. Budget planners built in Rands, designed for South Africans, with no nonsense. They work on GoodNotes, Notability, OneNote, or you can print them at home. No internet required. No subscriptions. Just you, your planner, and your money.

Whether you're trying to track your spending, pay off debt, or save for something big — there's a planner for you. And if you're not sure where to start, try the free 7-day planner first.

Let's get your rands making sense.
